		<abstract>The water crisis faced by many cities generates the need to adopt different methods to monitor reservoir levels. The use of remote sensing images is a good tool for this type of work, since it allows a wide view of the reservoir in different dates and the measurement of the changes. In this work the objective is to analyze the variability of the level of the two main reservoirs of the Federal District, Descoberto River Dam and Santa Maria Reservoir, in LANDSAT 8 images from the years 2013 to 2016 applying a variation of the normalized difference water index - NDWI. For the classification of the reservoirs, the values thresholds were selected, and a slicing was applied to the NDWI images, which allowed the reservoirs to be separated from the rest of the targets easily. The results showed that in the analyzed reservoirs a reduction of the level of the open water feature has been observed since the year 2014, and in 2016 the most severe reduction occurred.</abstract>
